Freshman Tour (The Magical Mystery Tour)
My oh my! This was an active day. I started out from Kansas City at 5:00 a.m. to make it to Jefferson City for a departure time of 8:30. After boarding a motor coach we rode for two and a half hours to Springfield where we were greeted by the Chamber of Commerce and treated to a box lunch and a presentation. Springfield is developing and expanding. They are attracting national and international companies to locate there, and the Springfield Public School District is now the largest in Missouri. Missouri State University shared some of their more innovative programs and partnerships aimed at entrepreneurial and economic development, and we toured the Jordan Valley Medical Center that takes a holistic approach in the way that it delivers health care services. Finally, we toured the Springfield-Greene County Public Safety Center where they are working on a statewide model for 9-1-1 services to be more coordinated. From there we traveled to Branson for a taste of one brand of Missouri tourism. This is a booming industry, for sure, and we were well entertained at the Titanic Museum, although I hope it isn’t an omen that they put all of us freshmen on a sinking ship.
Tomorrow morning we head out for Joplin and then Kansas City.
